Area E
Excavation
A step-trench on the northwest corner of the mound, above the rock-cut boat-slips and the small central bay ('the Love Bay').
1985 by the University of California, Berkeley (dir. David Stronach), 1986 - 1989 by McMaster University (dir. Ray Hobbs).
Stratigraphic sequence
The main find in this area is a Roman bathhouse.
The boat-slips are probably
Hellenistic and/or Persian;
they may have been dry-docks for fishing
vessels, or berths for war-galleys.
At the bottom of the trench are the earliest remains
excavated by our expedition, dating to the Middle Bronze Age.
