Imagery on the Coins of Dor
This research project analyzes the Greek and Roman coins minted at Dora in order to reconstruct various aspects of the society of the ancient city, including coin use and exchange, religious and economic life, and the architecture of the monuments represented on the coins. By focusing on the semiotic function of coins as primary vehicles of cultural self-understanding, we argue that the Dora coins offer valuable insights into the evolution and outlook of a culture that formed as an aggregate of systems.
